Does it work on the original Wii?

Yes, this is a standard gamecube controller and works on the wii, the same as all gamecube controllers do. It was manufactured in Japan, the country that owns Nintendo, so you know it's a good one. Plus, the cable is a bit longer than the US controllers.

It's true that the packaging is in Japanese, but these remotes definitely work on US-based Wii systems. I bought two of these remotes for my sons, and they enjoy using them on our Wii (in the US).

How long is the cable on this? Will I have to buy extensions?

The cord is about 300cm. or 118in. The cord is very long and you shouldn't have to buy an extension, unless you want to play from the other side of the room. I am very satisfied with this product and it's cord. Hope this helps.

YES!!! This fells just like the original Gamecube Controller. The exception is the Z button a little bit sticky for the first time. If you keep pressing it will become fine.
