Excellent (w/ a teacher's help)
I've been a teacher for 16 years and absolutely love this series. That said, these books are not really meant as a self-study methods; you will need a knowledgeable teacher to take you through them effectively. There is a TON of repetition in this series -- esp. in book 1 -- and it could be overwhelmingly slow if you try to go at it alone. A good teacher will help you decide when to skip a particular excise and when to focus on certain aspects of a particular exercise rather than the whole thing. My only criticisms -- and they're minor -- are that rest strokes aren't introduced until book 2 and higher register reading isn't introduced until book 3. Advances readers will need to introduce supplemental repertoire by the end of book 1.

Not What I Had Hoped!
I have long been a disciple of the Shearer method, but this series is one I will not be able to use with my students. It is painfully slow, as one book is dedicated to free stroke, one to rest stroke and one to reading in the upper positions. With each book in excess of $30, it will only serve as a reference for me. That is disappointing! The other aspect of the series that I found interesting was the online support/videos. Unfortunately, much of that remains incomplete at this point.

It was a present for my husband who is learning Spanish classical guitar using the TAB method. I was looking for a publication that would bridge the gap and gradually introduce him to the traditional technique. We're learning in Spanish so it's called "Partitura" and "Solfeo"! We're english (though fluent in Spanish) by the way but his teacher only speaks Spanish. He wants a text to use at home but is currently very stubborn about opening a text on partitura
