The Timex SL Series™ is a signature combination of sophistication and sportiness. The addition of Intelligent Quartz™ technology takes the SL Series to a new level of functionality. The Timex SL Series™ Fly-Back Chronograph features a fly-back chronograph movement and second time zone. Timex Group B.V. is one of the best-known American watch companies. Timex's U.S. headquarters are located in Middlebury Connecticut and it has substantial operations in China, the Philippines and India and full scale sales companies in Canada, the UK, France and Mexico. The company began in 1854 as Waterbury Clock in Connecticut's Naugatuck Valley, known during the nineteenth century as the "Switzerland of America." Sister company Waterbury Watch manufactured the first inexpensive mechanical pocket watch in 1880. During World War I, Waterbury began making wristwatches, which had only just become popular, and in 1933 it made history by creating the first Mickey Mouse clock under license from Walt Disney, with Mickey's hands pointing the time.During World War II, Waterbury renamed itself U.S. Time Company. In 1950 the company introduced a wristwatch called the Timex. Over the next three decades, Timex was sold through a series of advertisements which emphasized its durability by putting the watch through "torture tests," such as falling over the Grand Coulee Dam or being strapped to the propeller of an outboard motor, with the slogan "It takes a licking and keeps on ticking." With the help of former Olympic broadcaster, spokesman John Cameron Swayze, sales took off. The company later became Timex Corporation, then Timex Group and, to date, has sold over one billion watches. The company has remained very competitive and the Timex brand continues its dominance through present day. Its primary market remains the United States and Canada, although the Timex brand is sold worldwide due to its ability to capitalize on its strong brand image and reputation for quality. One of the most successful and important features available on many Timex watches is the Indiglo backlight system. Indiglo is a brand name of Indiglo Corporation, solely owned by Timex for licensing purposes. Timex electroluminescent lamps, branded Indiglo, were introduced in 1992 in the Ironman watch line. They were an immediate success. The Indiglo lamp uniformly lights the surface of the Timex’s watch dials in a manner that makes the dial read very easily in many different light settings. In some newer watches the Indiglo backlight only lights up the numbers, rather than the entire LCD display, which is achieved by means of a specialized film that inverts the LCD transmissivity.Today, Timex Group products are manufactured in the Far East and in Switzerland often based on technology that continues to be developed in the United States and in Germany. With a large and varied line of watches, Timex has the style for everyone. From the locker room to the board room, there is a great Timex style time-piece for you.

A watch I wanted to love but couldn't read subdials and indiglow didn't light full face like most timex watches
I went back and forth on which flyback to purchase, and ended up with this one which was the wrong call. I wanted to love it, and picked it for a particular style for an event. The watch itself is very flashy and good looking; more than I expected. It sat for a couple of days on my desk till I got used to it, and then I decided it would be ok afterall. Then it turned out that it just took way too much effort to read it. It does emulate some of the big name watches, but it doesn't pull it off in readability. I could never find the right combination of distance, angle, and light to read it without a lot of work, and I really tried. Most times, I don't have time for watch reading to be a lot of work. I need to glance at it and know the time. The silver hands are hard to make out, and the flyback subdial indicators are really skinny and almost impossible to read. The flyback was cool, and I really liked it in theory, but it was clear to me that I would never be able to actually use it unless i was in perfect conditions and not doing anything else because the indices and pointers were so small/skinny to read while doing ANYTHING else... which is typically when you use a chronometer- when you are timing the something else.I had been told that the whole face illuminated (it doesn't in this model). The shape of the area that does illuminate essentially cuts off the long part of the minute hand which means in the dark you can't tell the difference between the minute and hour hands without really looking hard at it between the hours of 12-3am and 6-9pm or any time the minute hand is in that part of the dial. I intended to have this be a watch I would use in the evening, and this essentially rendered it useless day or night. (After looking at the other fly back models, it appears you can tell which ones have full illumination and which have the 'bowtie' look like this one. If this will be a problem for you, it can be discerned which is which if you look hard). It's too bad, because this is usually one area Timex is just way better than most of the others. The other thing is that the design of the bezel negatively impacts the size of the dial. The perpetual calendar model I got was essentially the same size on the outside, but had a bigger more legible dial and pointers on the subdials. So I think this could have been a great watch, but unfortunately I needed more than a bauble. I believe some of the other fly back models will be more legible, but beware of marketing photos. With reservations, I ordered a Timex IQ Perpetual Calendar, which was much better to read (but no flyback). I'll put up pictures of both. Amazon delivery was the usual high standard. I got slammed for the restock fee for not getting it back under the 30 day window. Ouch. I might have just kept it if I knew I would take that hit, but it either wasn't pointed out to me or I misunderstood, so it is my bad and doesn't impact my watch review. Just don't make the mistake I did of not just returning it right away if you aren't sure. I waited to get the replacement and a clear answer on the illumination, and it cost me. I'll upload some pix which aren't great but give you the idea...Update many months later: Having now looked at LOTs of other watches, I was probably overly harsh on the legibility of the subdials and chronograph. Many of the others are pretty illegible, too. The indiglow thing was an issue. If I had it to do over w/the restocking hit, I would have kept it. If I could have gone 3.5 stars I would have!

My opinion
The watch is a great little timepiece but there are a few things, that, for me, I didn't like. There is too much going on with a sweep second hand and a second timer hand that confuses the timepiece a bit. Lastly, the Indiglo lighting, which I have always liked, is hindered by only showing the watch face less the sweep back hands so it tends to look like a modern hour glass when seen at night. The multiple hands can be confused. Other than those two small issues, it works well.

Gorgeous watch, wonderful design
Despite it's well designed features, I was disappointed that all of them didn't work. For example the date wouldn't change. I went online got the instructions, did it no results. However contacted Amazon, very good customer service, they offered to replace it. So I will get a new one. I really like the customer service Amazon provides.

Very nice
This is probably my 4th or 3rd Timex of this style (Flyback with leather strap). It is very handsome appearing, not to busy not to many gadgets on the face. IT IS MUCH MORE GOOD LOOKING IN PERSON. I am not sure how well the leather will last though. It feels OK but I can see a breakdown where you bend it back to slip the pin in the approate hole. I would and probably will purchase another. Highly recommended.

Love It!
I bought this as a gift for my husband. This chronograph watch was mentioned in an article in Popular Science magazine (2/12) as one of 2012's best gadgets. It has a nice sized face, is beautiful. and, he loves it!

My ideal watch.
I have been looking for the "perfect" watch for a while". I have been through like 20 watchers, and I think this is the one.

Good watch and great look for the price
No one suspects this is a Timex. This watch has a very nice look and feel. For the price people think you paid a lot more.
